My 10 year old’s music teacher told him he should not stand the guitar up. Maybe for prolonged periods, I could see why someone might not want to stand it in a corner leaning on the machine head, but what are the chances of damage? Why is there such a thing as a guitar stand?

I have always played on fender guitar amps and peavey amps. Im getting a new amp soon, what is another good amp and why? Thanks
